Picture 138

summer is here. sunshine, popsicles, swimming, and photos. so many exciting things are popping up! one very exciting thing is today’s release of shana rae’s florabella luxe actions! you know i’ve been a fan of the florabella collection for as long as shana has been around the industry. of course i’m always thrilled to share with you all products that i not only love, but am happy to support – and florabella is no exception.

i have the new luxe actions and can’t say enough good about them. shana’s done it again! here’s a random peek into our summer so far, a la florabella!

meet shalina. mama to one, artist, creative genius, one of my dearest friends. we’ve been pals since we were five, and often joke that at one point in our friendship i was taller than her (not the case anymore) :) we’ve always had a unique relationship – and as children, when all the other little girls were painting their toenails and dressing their dolls… shalina and i were designing the coffee shop we would once own together (ahem, ’shalangies’) and perfecting the colored pencil drawings we did on a daily basis. i suppose you can say we’ve always had an artistic streak.

recently, shalina has begun a new journey in life. she is sharing her journey through weight loss in a fabulous new blog.

please join me over there in following and encouraging her in this venture. i’m so proud of her, love her to pieces, and can’t wait to cheer her on the entire way through. and as it would be, she asked me to document this journey. we had so much fun styling this session. isn’t she gorgeous? can’t wait for the next shoot!

behind the camera | settings & actions take 2

a few months ago i was asked to share some of my processing details. you can view my first ‘behind  the camera’ post  here.

just last week while chatting with the fabulous students from my photography class for moms, they too were asking for some before and afters. this week we are talking a lot about lighting – how to get the best natural light images of your loved ones and again they begged for some more images.

so here are a few before & afters from a recent session & the details.

01

  • iso 320  |  f/1.4  | ss 1/500

  • sun setting at his right
  • straightened the image in lightroom + preset and adjustments

03

  • iso 320  |  f/1.8  | ss 1/800 (could have gotten away with lower ss or higher ISO)
  • nikon d300  |  50mm 1.4 lens
  • early june, 6:15 pm
  • sun setting behind the buildings
  • cropped image *just a smidge* in lightroom, brought exposure up a touch
  • took into cs4, added action and a bit of an s-curve

i hope this is helpful to someone! i know i absolutely loved reading what others did and how they did it as i journeyed into learning photography. are there any specific before & afters you’d like me to share?

Jessica D - That 3rd shot down is seriously the best pose ever. I hate to admit it, but I may steal it someday. LOVE.

Amie Hansen - thanks for sharing the settings before and after! Love your work

Stephanie - I love these posts of yours!

Kate - thanks for sharing! as a newbie photographer, it is so nice and helpful to see what the "pros" do! :)

Tanya - I love that you posted this, thank you! I have a question for you, why is your iso not at 100? I am under the impression that you keep it as low as possible but it seems like you had plenty of light and could have gone with a lower iso and gotten the same effect if you\'d just lowered your ss some... but I\'m sure you have a very good reason so please do share!

Juli - I love your post on editing and would love to see more, especially of the recent wedding you did. Thanks!
