last month i shared some exciting news, some of my images were chosen to be apart of an incredible silent auction to benefit those in haiti. the mom 2.0 exhibit features an incredible array of art focusing on the beauty of motherhood and recently i was able to view photos of the gallery on flickr, thanks much to my gal tracey clark. i’d encourage you to take a peek over at the flickr set, be prepared to be moved. i only wish i could have attended myself!

a giving back update | brayton | san francisco baby photographer

i’ve mentioned before how much my giving back sessions have meant to me – how i enjoy following along with the families – crying with them as well as rejoicing together in good news. you may remember brayton, was born with a condition known as tracheoesophageal fistula (which is where the esophagus isn’t connected). i have been honored to photographed him many times now – starting at just a few weeks old, a halloween session, and again at 6 months old. it was an incredible experience when i was able to follow his family out of the hospital on the day of his release. this little guy is quite the miracle and i’m excited to share an update from his sweet mama along with some recent photos she sent over.

Brayton is doing fantastic. He is walking now, talking some-his favorite words for now are hello, and backpack (from Dora), and he is into everything as most 18 month olds are. He still has a feeding tube, but was eating pretty consistently by mouth until recently. He has started spitting everything up that he eats, so we have stopped his oral feeds until we can get him down to San Francisco for a swallow study. Other than that, he has been doing really well. We’ve had quite a few hospital trips since he was released but none recently, thank goodness. Hes pretty darn healthy, especially considering all he has been through. He is about 27-28 pounds, and about 33 1/2″ long. He is still a very happy baby but has recently started to throw temper tantrums. Opinionated little man, he is! He looks just like his Daddy, and everywhere we go, we hear people tell us so. We are so grateful to have him home, and he has amazed us, as well as many medical professionals with how quickly he has progressed since being released from the hospital. He is our little miracle.

do you remember this sweet boy from our session last month? i’ve done a few giving back sessions over the last two years, and they become more than clients to me – they become apart of me. i find myself checking in on them, praying for them, thinking of them often. i check their care pages, facebook updates, and exchange emails and phone calls with their parents. liam is no different. yesterday a man donated bone marrow, selflessly and without question, to give this darling boy a second chance at a well-deserved life. tonight the process begins and the silva family covets every prayer. the road ahead is long, but the miracle in today is huge. if you’d like to keep up with liam and family, friend them on facebook by clicking here.

i awoke to gorgeous skies and made my way to ann & jeff’s house. inside was a family filled with so much love, i immediately felt at home. i’ve been looking forward to this session for some time, the chance to capture this precious family was an honor and blessing for me. darling liam is currently awaiting confirmation of a bone marrow transplant that is needed, after a long battle with hlh – to which his darling mama describes as a “revved up autoimmune-style blood disease”. what a little blessing he and his big brother are – full of smiles and sweetness, strength and courage. silva family, – thank you, thank you. prayers & love!

giving back sessions are near to my heart, and i was honored and thrilled to meet up with helen. she and her sweet newborn flew back to the states from taiwan for a quick weekend trip to visit her ailing mother. tiny sheng zhu got to meet her namesake grandmother, and what a gift to get to photograph them. just a quick sneak peek for helen and family. much love!

the day arrived, with gorgeous weather in the sf as little b was prepped to head home. the air was filled with excitement while his many amazing doctors and nurses came to bid him farewell. it was an honor to be with them today, as our little photo sessions came full circle. congrats again my friends! hugs to you baby b!

little man b! for those of you who have followed b’s story you’ll certainly remember these gorgeous eyes. if you are new to town, you may check out the first three sessions and a bit of his story here. i think i speak for anyone who knows this family… i am sooo giddy with excitement for them. sweet b is now 9 months old and doing so incredibly well, post-repair. i’ll be heading out to ucsf next week to follow them right outta there, then onto somewhere special for their first session outside. to say i’m looking forward to it would be an understatement. here’s a brief reminder in case you forgot ; )

a wonderful, mutual friend put together a lovely surprise for b’s mama this past week. she arranged everything with ucsf, and i headed in for a special surprise session with b. after all, every baby needs 6 month photos, right? (for those of you just joining me, here is the first session and the second session with b!) so without further ado, i give you sweet b. oh, oh, wait! exciting news! b is due in for surgery this friday the 9th! please join me in praying for a successful repair. he had a pretty bad episode yesterday and is sedated and on a vent until surgery. poor little guy. aimee and rick will be heading down soon to be with him through his recovery, this means of course, rick will be out of work during this time. if you would like to know how you can help them, please contact me!

i had the honor of visiting sweet baby b again this weekend. some of you may remember a few months back i went to ucsf to visit with my friend aimee and her darling little one, mister b. well, we are hopeful that he will make it in for a successful repair at the end of this month! his mama and daddy are missing him so much. they hadn’t seen him in nearly a month – so [s]halina and I headed out to the city to give b some mommy love and do a little session for his proud parents. i had hoped to get him a pumpkin hat, in honor of his first halloween, but wouldn’t you know they were all sold out at target. instead we settled for a ghost hat, and if i do say so, he made a darling ghost!

b’s mama and i met up at UCSF for a mini session. he is such a sweet lil’ man, and such a fighter. aimee, it was an honor to come spend some time with you and b! lots of prayers are with you guys!
