sorry, please try again.

the journey – day one – angie warren – bay area photographer

though i intended for yesterday to be day one of this new venture – it just didn’t quite happen. my goal is to be as real here as possible, so you’ll find that i will do my best to share with you the ups and downs. i’m not necessarily detoxing or cleansing, or even committing to eating raw 100%… but i am using the book i shared with you as a guide to better eating, and all around changes our family needs to make for our health.

today is officially my first day sans starbucks as well as diet pepsi. surprisingly (and i really mean surprisingly) i have no headache though i am definitely craving both drinks. we had a lazy day and stayed at home, not going for a walk to starbucks was tough. tomorrow i’ll be out a lot and the routine of driving through or stopping with the boys will be difficult. i realized today, it is more the habit of going in and seeing my fave barista and ordering my drink – than it really is the drink itself.

sounds silly, it being coffee and all, but this is huge for me.

so today 90% of my diet was raw, i’d even venture to say 95%. i feel good! i’ve had so much water i feel as though i live in the bathroom – but the benefits will far outweigh the negatives. for breakfast i had tea and a banana, a snack of grapes a while later. lunch was a big salad of leafy lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, avacado, and tuna. i did have a smidge of honey mustard dressing (obviously not raw there). throughout the day i snacked on fruit and veggies, and for dinner i decided to get creative. mckmama has some great recipes for more “crunchy” eating and i’ve been excited to try her veggie cereal since deciding to make these changes. my own take on it was a bit different but still i really enjoyed it!

Untitled-1

(i realized as i was juicing some carrots that today was a bit high on the orange factor, i’ll probably have a warm tint to my skin tomorrow, hehe)

my version of veggie cereal

2 medium carrots
1 apple cored & peeled
3 tablespoons sliced almonds

i cut the carrots and popped it all into the magic bullet (note: is not in fact a food processor but worked okay) and processed until, as mckmama says ‘all ingredients are about the size of couscous’.

topped with some almond milk (no not home-made), it was delish! i actually couldn’t eat it all.

so there is day one. getting through the week without my latte or even an ice cold diet pepsi is going to be icky. i can feel my mood changing and i’m on edge – but am determined to push through! i can go 30 days without either, right?

theadora - I am proud of you girl! I have been walking and going without diet coke (my vice) for 3 days now!! So, we can bathroom buddies together!! LOL!!!....I just realized that sounds weird! LOL!

marta - No headache is just not fair!! My was brutal :(. Honestly I am glad, and I am really happy you are doing this too!
